Sustainable atmosphere through marine diversity preservation: VSU V-C

Jan 30, 2011: “Research should enable the preservation of Marine ecological studies effecting sustainable atmosphere and livelihood,” said Prof. C.R. Visweswara Rao, honourable Vice-Chancellor, Vikrama Simhapuri University in his presidential address inaugurating the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, Hyderabad, sponsored National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Marine and Coastal Studies on 30th January 2011. 150 participants from different parts of the state and the country attended the National Seminar. Treating it a special occasion to have Prof. R.Ramamurthi, the recipient of Sir Aushutosh Mukherjee award for rendering yeomen services to the development of science in the country, formerly Vice-Chancellor, S.V. University as the Chief Guest, he said that the occasion calls for a broad and purposeful study of the latest developments in the subject.  He touched upon the major shifts taking place in marine and other life sciences for the betterment of ecological studies.

    The Chief Guest, Prof. R. Rammurthi said that it is a homecoming for him since he belonged to this district and reflected on his childhood years when the coastal areas of Nellore were rich with mangrove diversity and ecological abundance. Releasing the Souvenir of the Seminar along with the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and the Dean, he recalled Pulicot as the nature’s wonder and described the depletion of mangroves as devastating to earthly atmospheric phenomena.  He called for the Marine Biology Department to take the lead in forming a National Association for Mangrove Ecosystems and develop academic and associative links with maritime universities in the east-coast. 


    Prof. V. Narayana Reddy, Registrar, congratulated the Department of Marine Biology for organizing this seminar and described it as a pioneering effort. He said that the long sea-coast and rich marine diversity of the east-coast creates excellent opportunities for research and hoped that this national seminar will give productive and fruitful results contributing to the on-going marine conservation efforts nationwide.
    Prof. T. Sudha, Dean, CDC touched upon the emerging areas in marine studies and oceanographic phenomena triggered by the aggravating temperatures on the earth calling for ample research scope and thrust for the young researchers. 
    Earlier, Dr. Ch. Venkatrayulu set the tone and objectives of the National Seminar. Prof. D.C. Reddy, Prof. Srinivasulu Reddy and other erudite scholars attended the inaugural function.
