May 30, 2011:
The Post-Graduate (PG) Centre in Kavali would be treated as second campus of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), and the 40-year old institution would be developed in all aspects, said VSU Vice-Chancellor C.R.Visweswara Rao.Mr.Rao along with Registrar V.Narayana Reddy visited the PG Centre for the first time on Friday, after the Government transferred the institution from Sri Venkateswara University to VSU. The college set up in a sprawling 76 acre land was providing education for the rural youth, particularly the weaker sections in the district, he said.
The new university would bear in mind the quest for quality implied in NAAC A-Grade Accreditation which the PG Centre also shared with SV University in setting targets for its growth.
Looking ahead: VSU Vice-Chancellor C.R.Visweswara Rao and Registrar V.Narayana Reddy inspecting Zoology lab during a visit to Kavali PG Centre in Nellore.
The V-C visited the dormitories, labs, library, classrooms, kitchen and dining hall in the institution. He enquired the inmates about the facilities in the hostel and asked the staff over the security at women's hostel during night hours. The university officials expressed satisfied with the buildings, infrastructure and the library which contained nearly 28,000 books.
Mr.Narayana Reddy verified the records and asked PG Centre Special Officer Shiva Shankar, about the teaching and non-teaching staff position in the centre. The V-C and the Registrar held meetings with the staff and enquired about their problems, if any. The university has sent a proposal to the Government for the grant of the budget to the PG Centre, said the registrar.
The Vice-Chancellor said the University Grants Commission (UGC) will in due course be compelled to grant 12 (B) for VSU as the new university is having a PG Centre with about ten departments, in addition to the ten courses being offered in the new campus at Nellore. Once the UGC grants 12 (B), the university will take steps to introduce new courses in the PG Centre. An Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) would be set up, which will monitor the academic activities from time to time.
VSU is making arrangements to provide guest faculty for the students, as many of the existing teaching staff opted to go back to their parental institution (SVU) this year. The university will make permanent recruitment after obtaining permission from the government, said the Vice-Chancellor.
