Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Rao said officers working in government organisations, national laboratories, private services and bureaucrats also can take up research programmes. Foreign students are also eligible and can register any time through Government of India. Researchers from other countries will be selected by a High Power Committee appointed by the university, he said.
Provision has been made for senior scientists to guide the researchers in VSU, conformity with latest regulations of UGC, inter disciplinary research and opportunity to interact with national laboratories for collaborative research would be provided, said the Vice-Chancellor. Registrar V. Narayana Reddy said the entrance test for the candidates will be held on August 8, 2010 at V.R.College in Nellore. VSU is expecting good number of candidates for research programmes as Nellore district has become a hub for industries and education. About 126 colleges including engineering, PG colleges, B.Ed and the Kavali PG Centre are functioning under VSU. The programmes will certainly improve the quality of teaching among the faculty and give scope for them to attend national and international level programmes, said the registrar. The university is concentrating on providing placements for the PG students in VSU immediately after completing the courses. Six students of M.Sc Marine Biology were selected as technical officers in the campus selections organised by Waterbase Limited of Chennai. Four other students also got placements in Sharath Sea Foods, said Mr.Reddy.
