VSU commences research programmes

Students from across the country attend admission process

September 19, 2010: Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), one of the six new universities established in the State two years ago, started Ph.D courses from Saturday.

A three-member screening committee comprising Sri Venkateswara University, Distance Education Director K.V.S. Sarma, Sri Krishnadevaraya University former Registrar Y. V. Ramanaiah and VSU College Development Council Dean T. Sudha conducted Ph.D admissions.

About 37 per cent of the candidates qualified in the VSU RESET-2010 (Entrance Test for Ph.D) and Higher Education Minister D. Sridhar Babu released the results recently.

First admission

VSU Vice-Chancellor C.R.Visweswara Rao and Registrar V.Narayana Reddy gave the first Ph.D admission in the university to Sk. Abdul Munaif, who topped the test in Marine Biology from VSU.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao said Ph.D courses were started in six branches in the university and 28 students including 15 full-time students joined in the first batch. Candidates possessing NET, CSIR and M.Tech qualifications from across the country attended the interviews.

The Registrar said admissions were made strictly as per UGC guidelines. Two students of VSU topped in the Ph.D entrance test in Marine Biology and Organic Chemistry, he said.

The Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar congratulated the students who joined the first batch of Ph.D programmes in the new university.
