VSU V-C to attend summit in Canada

Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal will lead a 30-member team to participate in the ‘Canada-India Education Summit-2011' from June 16 to June 18 at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.

Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Vice-Chancellor C.R. Visweswara Rao will be representing Andhra Pradesh in the education meet.


Sastry India-Canadian Institute–New Delhi, named after former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Sastry, is organising the education meet in Canada, to facilitate exchange of academic scholars at a bi-national level.

High Commissioner of India S.M. Gawai, Canadian Minister for Foreign Affairs John Baird, and University Grants Commission Chairman Prof. Ved Prakash are slated to attend the meet to discuss on ‘Partnerships and Collaborations', ‘Promotion of Technology in Higher Education', ‘Feasibility of Faculty Exchanges' and other topics.

Proposals on strengthening of research in ‘Development of heterocyclic compounds from marine resources for drug delivery to promotion of bio-diversity studies' would also be submitted in the three-day education meet, the Mr. C.R. Visweswara Rao said.

The proposal would seek Canadian coordination in estimating the potential of the project, taking into consideration the 2,000 km coastline in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Nellore district.

Exchange of ideas

Educationists of both the countries will exchange ideas on ‘Recognition of Degrees', ‘Conduct of Joint Research Programmes', and ‘Co-guiding of doctoral students', among others.

The Vice-Chancellor, during his tour, will participate in a series of meetings and explain about the research programmes being taken up by the new university.
