March 02, 2010: Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor and In-Charge Vice-Chancellor for Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Y.R. Haragopal Reddy said higher education in the country is suffering due to lack of good teachers and asked the faculty to acquaint themselves with latest teaching skills.
Addressing the faculty and the students during his visit to VSU here on Tuesday, the In-Charge Vice-Chancellor said the success of a nation depends upon its citizens and the standard of education being provided, which is in the hands of the teachers.
Stating that a teacher is accountable to the society, Mr. Reddy said faculty plays a key role in higher education system and asked them to be well equipped to mould the young professionals as job providers, but not as job seekers.
The Vice-Chancellor observed that there was a mis-match between the teaching being offered by the faculty in educational institutions and the expectations of the industrialists in the market and asked the teachers to bridge the gap. He advised the universities to organise group discussions, debates, team building and improve communication skills and leadership qualities among the students to enable them to secure good jobs immediately after completing the education. Prof. Reddy asked the VSU management to make educational tours and industrial visits as part of the curriculum which will provide practical exposure for the budding entrepreneurs. A native of Palachuru village of Naidupeta mandal in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district, Mr. Haragopal Reddy complimented VSU for introducing nine courses in a short time in the newly set up university.
Registrar V. Narayana Reddy explained the achievements of the university.
