“Students should script their success through effective communication,” said Prof. C.R. Visweswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Vikrama Simhapuri University, on the inauguration of the Workshop on Communication Skills – III in the University. He said that the University, since inception, has been offering the career improving skills to get better placements. He said that the courses started have their relative significance with utilizing the potential resources of the region. The learner-centered curriculum turned the teacher to being a facilitator, materials adopter and an evaluator to enable the students with better communicative practices. Referring to the grammatical incoherence in writing and spoken abilities, he said that the second language requires the know-how and the do-how and only through a synchronized effort better communication is possible. He said that three Workshops on Communication Skills were done and one Workshop on Soft Skills for Professional Success intended for the professional students of all the students in the region. “The active and enthusiastic participation of the students in all the workshos is the remarkable feature,” he said.
Prof. G. Rajagopal, Dean, The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad dwelt on the context for the onset of communication skills in the market-oriented economies. He stressed on the teachers’ competence in the language classroom to make the students aware of good communication skills. He said that simple task based activities like picture response and answering closed questions for information will develop their ability to speak well.
Prof. T. Sudha, Dean, CDC in her address said that English Language has become the deal-breaker in the job market today. She said that communicative aspects of teaching havd gained good deal of attention and application in teaching. Activity oriented teaching will drive away the inhibitions so that the students come out without fright to speak language and learn from the mistakes committed.
