March 04, 2011: “The local self governing bodies should get appropriate support from the Universities to step up the social interaction for realizing the welfare state,” said Prof. V. Narayana Reddy, Registrar, Vikrama Simhapuri University, inaugurating the four day awareness-cum-enlightening Special Camp (Urban) as the Chief Guest, organized by the NSS Unit, Vikrama Simhapuri University, at Balaji Nagar slum area, Nellore on 04th March 2011. Stressing the invariable utility of the local self governance envisaged in the Indian Constitution, he said that the goals of sustainable development can be achieved only through the inclusiveness of all the sections of the society. He also said that the local self governing bodies and the universities involve in a cooperative interaction to achieve the much desired goals of poverty alleviation and social justice. He said that the research potential and the academic reach of the Universities will help the Panchayats and the Municipalities to get an objective impact assessment of the World Bank funded schemes and projects. The assessment as such would help the future schemes to reach the target groups to bring awareness on the social evils as well as the health related issues. Awareness on AIDS, Children care, necessity of primary education, nutrition, sanitation, are the issues that need immediate concern, he said.
Prof. T. Sudha, Dean, CDC, in her presidential address said that meditation and yoga have immense benefits for gaining both mental soundness and physical well being. Appreciating the NSS Unit organizers for organizing the yoga awareness camp for the school children, she said that the children’s school going and better health care will reflect in their education to become good citizens.
Sri Vittapu Lalitharam, ex-municipal councilor 13th division, Balajinagar, also the special invitee to the camp extended unconditional support since the camp included very helpful programmes for the public.
Earlier, Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy, NSS Coordinator, NSS Unit, Vikrama Simhapuri University spelt the objectives of the special camp. NSS officers Dr. R. Prabhakar and Dr. Y. Vijaya also actively participated in the programme.
