Bridge communication between the government and the people: VSU V-C

March 05, 2011: “National Service Scheme units should act as liaison between the government and the people in collecting data about literacy, health, medical facilities and so on to help prepare intensive plans for poverty alleviation in rural areas,” said Prof. C.R.Visweswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Vikrama Simhapuri University, inaugurating the four day long Unit- III Special Camp (Rural) at Narasimhaswamykonda Colony as the chief guest, organized by the NSS Unit of the University on 5th March 2011.  Building-up such bridges of understanding are necessary in a vast democracy, where population explosion continues to be a socio-economic problem to tackle. He congratulated the NSS unit for choosing a remote village where sanitation, hygiene, and living conditions justify the conduct of the NSS camp.  In this activity where the University will be at the doorstep of the village community through the NSS, the Vice-Chancellor wanted the NSS units to be prompt and precise in mapping the economic, social and health-related concerns of the villages. “Family planning, awareness about AIDS, dispelling of the darkness of superstitions, and focus on girl-child upbringing and education are the major problems where the rural masses need to be educated through voluntary organizations,” he said.  In the context of the voter enrollment campaign launched by the Election Commission of A.P, Prof. Rao said that the NSS volunteers should identify adults not yet enrolled as voters and not only enroll them but educate them about the need for building up a society of equals through awareness promotion.
About 30 volunteers, children, men and women participated in the Inaugural function.  Earlier, Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy, NSS Coordinator, explained the objectives of the Special Camp (Rural), solicited the cooperation of the villagers in the preparation of the questionnaire and in filling up of the voter enrollment forms. He profusely thanked Sri. B. Subbaiah, Surpanch of the village and Sri.V. Ashok Reddy, MPTC for the support extended to this NSS activity.
