Sports surpass geographical boundaries: VSU V-C

March 11, 2011: “The passion for sports and games has increased the world over and it knew no national or regional boundaries,” said Prof. C.R.Visweswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Vikrama Simhapuri University formally inaugurating the Intramural Sports Competitions of the University College at A.C. Subba Reddy stadium on 11-03-2011. He said that the sportsmanly spirit instills the spirit of accommodation and tolerance in this era of globalization. A nation which ought to exploit the potential of the youth for its development bestows attention on body health as well as health of the mind that is the reason for a growing preoccupation with sports and games all over the world. Prof. Rao further said that viewing sports on the T.V screen should fast be replaced by practising at the nets and playing on the fields in all schools and colleges. The Vice-Chancellor announced that the University is writing to Association of Indian Universities (AIU) for permission to conduct Inter-University Shuttle Badminton tournaments for the South zone at Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore. He also appealed to the affiliated colleges to cooperate with the University in organizing academic, extracurricular and sports events.
The National flag and the University College flag were hoisted to mark the inauguration of the events. The Vice-Chancellor after hoisting the National flag declared open the intramural sports competitions and wished best from the students.  The students have taken the oath to play the sports in the true spirit and to follow the sporting ideals. As the sports events followed soon, the Vice-Chancellor accompanied by the Registrar, Prof. V. Narayana Reddy, Prof. T. Sudha, Dean, CDC flagged off the men’s 400 Metres run. The winners were presented medals by the Vice-Chancellor in the ceremony that followed.


Earlier, Prof. V. Narayana Reddy, Registrar hoisted the University College flag and stressed on playing sports to attain physical as well as mental readiness to effectively cope with the modern living’s parcel of stress and strain. He said that sports make students mentally agile and tough to take on the challenges in right stride.
    150 students from the University College are going to take part in six sporting events. In cricket 8 teams are in fray while 8 teams will compete in Volleyball, 5 teams in Throwball (Women), Shuttle badminton singles (men) – 27 participants, Shuttle badminton doubles – 16 teams, Shuttle women singles – 17 participants, and Shuttle women doubles 10 teams will compete. Separate events are conducted for staff in all the above categories.

 
     The University, this year has shifted the sports venue to A. C. Subba Reddy stadium to provide better sporting facilities to the students. The competitions are conducted at parallel venues in the stadium without prejudice to the students’ common participation in the events. Neutral umpires and sports adjudicators were invited to monitor the events.
