Precise solutions through GIS: VSU V-C

March 29, 2011:
“Mathematical Modeling with its simulative tools has offered precise solutions in Geographical Information Systems,” said Prof. C.R.Visweswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Vikrama Simhapuri University at the Valedictory Event of the Department of Science and Technology sponsored National Workshop on Mathematical Modeling in Geographical Information Systems. The Workshop, organized by the Department of Computer Science got good response with participants from the industry and academia. Talking on the occasion, Prof. Rao said that GIS has become multi-disciplinary in character using the masterly philosophy of mathematics to widen its application base. He said that calamity prediction and strategies to step up rehabilitative measures for crisis handling will be reinforced with such geographical mapping through mathematical modeling. Prof. Rao said that GIS has a major role to play in Future Studies and prediction mechanisms.
Prof. P.V. Arunachalam, founder Vice-Chancellor, Dravidian University, Kuppam, the Chief Guest of the function explained the precision of Mathematical modeling in varied fields and its multifarious applications in Geographical Information Systems. Demonstrating the surge and wide application base, he said, Mathematical Modeling has become a phenomenal factor in collecting spatial data and attributive data using the real time calculations and accuracy of the computers for better data sufficiency and interpretation of geographical phenomena.  He was explaining the munificent uses of mathematics in computer simulation and data management for greater efficiency and accuracy.
Prof. V. Narayana Reddy, Registrar, the Guest of Honour on the occasion said  Geographical Information Systems is steadily growing with a wide variety inter-disciplinary applications in Remote sensing, Cartography, Meteorology, Hydrology etc. As the subject finds the application of knowledge and the systematic analysis of the data related to the earth’s crust, core and strata, there are immense opportunities for the enthusiastic students to go for innovation and further exploration of the subject to hand over their fruits of research and study for the benefit of the mankind.
Earlier, Prof. T. Sudha, Dean, CDC, General Chair of the Workshop presented the report of the Workshop.  The five day workshop was attended by eminent resource persons. Prof. P. Jagadeeswara Rao, Professor of Geo-Engineering and Centre for Remote Sensing, Andhra University. Prof. Ramana Murthi, Osmania University, Hyderabad  Dr. V.V. Venkataramana, Scientist-C, Technical Director, National Informatic Centre, Hyderabad, Dr. Sreenivasa Rao, Prof. Dattatreya, Principal, Narayana College of Engineering and Technology delivered their talks.
Participants were given certificates in the valedictory function.
