SVU PG Centre, Kavali formally transferred to VSU, Nellore

The transfer of SVU PG Centre, Kavali was formally done  on 31st March 2011, after the January 1, 2011 G.O No. 1, directing the transfer of the PG Centre from the jurisdiction of Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati to Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore. This transfer has formally completed the wee bit that is in balance in bringing the UG, PG, Professional courses  being offered by 127 colleges hitherto affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University now falling in the jurisdiction of Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore.     Prof. N. Prabhakar Rao, Vice-Chancellor, S.V. University, Tirupati has handed over the letters of transfer to Prof. C.R. Visweswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, V. S. University, Nellore.  Prof. C.R. Visweswara Rao, talking on the occasion said that the transfer of S.V.U P.G Centre, Kavali, has further strengthened the higher education initiatives of the government which is committed to rural empowerment and creating new opportunities for the rural youth. He also said that the University, at present, is offering courses keeping in view the resource potential of the region and the skill enablement of the youth. The same vision will be carried forward to provide the professional reservoir and think-tanks for an intellectually enriching environment.
    Prof. V. Narayana Reddy, Registrar, said that these are indeed the cherishing moments of the University as the hands of the University got strengthened through the transfer of the P.G.Centre. He also said that Nellore is fast emerging into an industrial city with the International Leather Complex, Mass Apparel Park, Apachi Footwear India Ltd., the Steel industries and Power Industries coming up in the district will provide immense job opportunities and this transfer is a great step towards empowering higher education in the district.
After 126 colleges in Nellore district coming into the fold of V.S. University,  The PG Centre at Kavali came into being in 1973 under the Visvodaya Trust with two courses, namely, Economics and Commerce. Now the PG Centre has 12 PG courses out of which 5 courses are regular and 7 courses are self-supporting. There are 20 regular teaching staff supported by guest faculty and teaching assistants and also with a support staff of 140.  The PG centre is in a sprawling campus of 79 acres and has 11 buildings with an infrastructure of 5 crores. The Laboratories are well-furnished and the Central Library houses good number of titles, references, journals and volumes.
     Prof. T. Sudha, Dean, CDC, Prof. J. Pratap Reddy, Registrar, SVU and respected members of faculty of SV. University, were also present.
