“There is an inevitable need to enable research compatible with nature and redefine research to enable the mother earth,” said Dr. Murali Mohan, Director & Scientist-F, National Resource Data Management System & National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NRDMS – NSDI, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi at the inauguration of the Department of Science and Technology sponsored National Seminar on “DST Research Programme Development, at the VSU Seminar hall on 27th June 2011. He said that scientific temper contributing to sustainable development will arm a new scientific revival dawning in a new awakening far and wide in the country. Referring to the wonderful and awe-inspiring engineering of the ancient times, he said, that this is high time that we took inspiration and evolve simple solutions and make difference in contributing to another scientific epoch.
Prof. C.R. Visweswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor and the President of the function said, it is highly encouraging that a premier research body is so forthcoming in funding academic as well as professional development programmes in the new university. He underscored the importance of a seamless connectivity and cooperation between the colleges and the University striving for the common good of the scientific progression and the academic enlightenment in the region. He expressed happiness over the acceptance of Maj. General. Shiv Kumar and Dr. Ramaswamy of the DST to be the resource persons of the Workshop. Referring to the research enablement by the industry in India, he said that the contribution of the industry in research programmes undertaken by the Universities is just 18% which is far less when compared with the far-east countries like Korea and Japan. He insisted that research should be with a futuristic perspective and the focus should be not only on the now but also on the hereafter.
Prof. V. Narayana Reddy, Registrar and the Distinguished Guest on the occasion said that industry-institute interaction gains significance in the globalized era. He proposed that an Centre for Cooperation between the University and the Industries at Nellore will evolve new scientific dynamics and technology enablement.
