- Practical classes, field tours have helped, say students
June 18, 2010: Six students of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), who completed M.Sc. in marine biology, have been selected in the campus recruitment drive taken up by Waterbase Limited, Chennai, a leading company in producing shrimp and prawn feed products.
Four other students of the same group have been selected in Sharat Sea Foods, Nellore, and they will be given postings soon. Out of the 18 students who completed M.Sc. (marine biology) in the first batch from the university, ten have got placements, says VSU Vice-Chancellor C.R. Visweswara Rao.
The V-C, along with Registrar V. Narayana Reddy, Waterbase Limited sales manager M. Sakthi, faculty Ch. Venkatrayalu, Ch. Vijaya and G. Sujaya handed over the appointment orders to the students here on Thursday.
The six students -- T.Vinoda, Sk.Nayab Rasool, T.Mallikharjuna, Ch.Rama Rao, Sk.Abdul Munaif and A.Venkata Naresh – were recruited as technical officers in the company, said the Registrar.
Speaking on the occasion, the students said the practical classes arranged by the university management and the field tours to various companies helped them in securing jobs immediately after completing the course.
The V-C said it was the success of the students and the faculty that the first batch of the students got placements in the leading companies which would be inspiring for their juniors. He complimented the students for their achievement.
Good demand
“Marine biology students have good demand in the market, particularly in fish and shrimp feed manufacturing companies, hatcheries, export companies and marine labs located in Nellore district.
The university is trying to provide jobs for the remaining students in aqua companies,” said the Registrar.
VSU placement cell in-charge T.Veera Reddy and others were present.
