Measures being taken for development of new varsities: Prof. K.C. Reddy

  • Affiliation powers to new varsities will continue: K.C. Reddy
  • ‘Government ready to allocate funds for buildings, other infrastructure in new varsities'
  • VSU management to get 32 acres soon in addition to 62.84 acres allotted
August 08,2010: The government is taking all necessary steps for the uplift of new universities set up in districts, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Chairman K.C. Reddy has said.

Prof. Reddy, who was here to participate in a workshop being organised by Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), told media that the government was taking measures for allocation of land, funds and infrastructure to all the new universities, which was a dream project of former Chief Minister Y.S.Rajashekara Reddy, to provide higher education to youth in the rural areas.

Affiliation to varsities

As regards dilemma in giving affiliation status to the new universities, Prof. Reddy clarified that the government had already issued a GO providing affiliation powers to the universities in their respective districts as per A.P. Universities Act.

The government had already made it clear to the Vice-Chancellors concerned in continuing affiliation powers as per the GO, and advised them to set up necessary staff and infrastructure in all the varsities.

When asked about non-cooperation of some old universities to the new university managements, he said the APSCHE would hold discussions with the Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of the old universities.

V-Cs' appointment

Prof. Reddy said there was no political intervention in the appointment of V-Cs and the recruitments were made strictly on the basis of merit and experience, he said.

“It is not possible to develop the new universities at a time. Even the Osmania and Andhra Universities were not developed over night. The government is ready to allocate necessary funds for constructing buildings, labs, hostels and set up the infrastructure in the new varsities,'' Prof. Reddy said.

Earlier, the APSCHE Chairman spoke with Collector K.Ramgopal in allocation of land to VSU at Kakuturu village, near Nellore, in the district.

The Collector promised to hand over 32 acres to VSU management soon, in addition to the 62.84 acres allotted in the same village.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies Chancellor Raj Reddy, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (Kakinada) Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao, VSU Vice-Chancellor C.R. Visweswara Rao, Registrar V. Narayana Reddy, Computer Sciences Head T. Sudha and others were present.
