• CBCS to be mandatory from next academic year: VSU Vice-Chancellor

  • Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Vice-Chancellor C.R. Visweswara Rao has directed the degree and post-graduate colleges under the university limits to introduce Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), which will provide overall knowledge to students.
    At a meeting with the principals and correspondents of affiliated colleges under VSU here on Thursday, Mr. Rao said the institution managements should implement the CBCS, which is a mandatory from the next academic year (2012-13).
    He said under CBCS the students can shift to his/her choice of subjects in the middle of the course in degree and PG. With a view to provide overall knowledge to students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued orders for CBCS as per the recommendations of Yash Pal Committee, said the Vice-Chancellor.

    VSU Registrar V. Narayana Reddy said, in first and third semesters the managements should impart basic knowledge on soft skills and advanced soft skills, and in second and fourth semesters basics in computer skills and advanced computer skills should be included in the syllabus as per CBCS.
    These are the mandatory subjects and the student should pass the subjects compulsorily. However, the marks scored in these subjects will not be accumulated in the final marks, said Mr. Reddy adding that the new system would benefit the students a lot.
    Mr. Narayana Reddy said the affiliated colleges should follow the UGC norms strictly. The university has planned for Inter-collegiate sports and games tournament to be conducted this year. VSU Principal and College Development Council Dean, T. Sudha and others spoke.
