Students of Jawahar Bharati Educational Institutions, Kavali, bagged the overall championship in the Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Inter-Collegiate Tournaments held in the district. Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy declared the four-day tourney open by releasing pigeons at Jawahar Bharati College grounds.
While Municipal Administration Minister M.Mahider Reddy distributed over championship and trophies to the winners at the valedictory function on October 1. Kavali MLA Beeda Mastan Rao presided over the inaugural function. VSU In-charge Vice-Chancellor N.Prabhakara Rao, Collector B.Sreedhar, Registrar V.Narayana Reddy, VSU PG Centre Special Officer Shivshankar and others attended the programme. Government has already sanctioned a sports hostel and Sports Complexes in all mandals in the district, said Mr.Ramnarayana Reddy and appealed to the educational institutions to encourage sports and games in the district and avail the facilities. The university management greeted the players who were selected for the All India Tournaments and assured them of all help in participating in the events, to be held in different states. More than 100 players who stood top in athletics, kho-kho, kabaddi, volley ball, ball badminton and football events in the inter-collegiate sports meet were selected for the All India Inter-University Tournaments. Nearly, 500 students from 127 affiliated colleges under VSU participated in the events.
The university will provide necessary coaching and distribute sports kits, dresses and other material to the players who will play in the All India Tournaments. The selected players will participate in the games and sports meets as per the schedule mentioned by All India Sports Board at different states, said Mr.Narayana Reddy.
The Registrar said the VSU management will take measures to encourage sports in all education institutions under its purview and complimented the men and women players who were selected for the All India level tournaments. The colleges should appoint physical education directors and allot grounds and kits for the students as per the rules. He directed the university Sports Board Committee to do surprise visits to the institutions and check whether the managements were following the norms in providing physical education for students. The university management will not hesitate to cancel affiliation to the institutions who neglect sports and other extra curricular activities, said Mr.Reddy.
