Minister opens tourney at VSU

Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Wednesday inaugurated the Vikrama Simhapuri University's (VSU) first inter-collegiate sports tournament at Kavali town in Potti Sreeramulu Nellore district.
The four-day tournament, which is being held from September 28 to October 1, is being organised by VSU along with Jawahar Bharati Educational Institutions, Kavali.
The Minister, along with VSU in-charge Vice-Chancellor N. Prabhakara Rao, Collector B. Sreedhar, and Registrar V. Narayana Reddy released pigeons to mark the inauguration of the tournament. Kavali MLA Beeda Masthan Rao presided over the programme. Mr. Ramnarayana Reddy announced that the government had sanctioned a sports hostel for Nellore district.
The hostel building, estimated to cost of Rs. 2.5 crore, would be constructed at A.C. Subba Reddy stadium in Nellore, the Minister said.
Sports complexes
The government had also proposed to construct sports complexes in all 46 mandals in the district and directed the Collector to acquire land for the establishment of the complexes.
Mr. Beeda Masthan Rao thanked the VSU authorities for organising the event for the first time in the university and also in the district. Jawahar Bharati Management is making all arrangements for the sportsmen, coaches and others attending the sports meet.
Prof. N. Prabhakara Rao said, “More than 500 students from 127 affiliated colleges under VSU are participating in the tournament.
Later, the Registrar, along with other dignitaries, visited the grounds and the courts prepared for the tournaments. He enquired the Rector, Jawahar Bharati Educational Institutions, D. Vinay Kumar Reddy, about the boarding and lodging facilities for the players.
