September 13, 2011:
Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Registrar V. Narayana Reddy has appealed to students to not indulge in ragging and spoil their lives as a result.
Students should behave in a gentle manner and help their juniors, he said.
Speaking at a meeting on ‘Prevention of Ragging' at the university here on Monday, Mr. Reddy said that all college managements under VSU should organise fresher parties which would develop a healthy friendship between senior and junior students and prevent teasing and ragging incidents.
The institution managements should constitute ‘Anti Ragging Committees' with students, parents and staff and keep a vigil to prevent ragging.
Boards explaining the punishment and consequences under the AP Prohibition of Ragging Act and phone numbers of college managements should be displayed in all colleges.
Strict vigil should be maintained in hostels, bus terminals, canteens and in the college campuses to prevent ragging.
The college staff should immediately bring to the notice any ragging incident to the university management, he said.
He appealed to students to not resort to ragging and eve-teasing and make the district a ragging-free district. Students of various branches and staff attended the meeting.
