VSU inter-collegiate sports tourney

Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha will inaugurate the Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Inter-Collegiate Men and Women Sports and Games Tournament in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district on September 28.
Jawahar Bharati Degree and P.G College, Kavali, will host the tournament, to be held from September 28 to October 1. Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Social Welfare and district in-charge Minister Pithani Satyanarayana will attend the programme.
According to VSU in-charge Vice-Chancellor N. Prabhakar Rao, the university will take special interest in making the event a grand success. He complimented the university Sports Board for conducting the tournament which is for the first time in the district.
Speaking at a review meeting on the tournaments with University Sports Board and Organising Committee members here on Tuesday, VSU Registrar V. Narayana Reddy said that players from 127 affiliated colleges under the new university are eligible to participate in the tournaments. The best performers in the event would be sent for All India and South Zone Inter-University tournaments, he said. The Registrar asked the tournament organising secretary R. Malyadri to make all arrangements for the successful conduct of the meet. Committees should be constituted to prepare the courts and ground for different events and for receiving the dignitaries.
30 events
Event observer M. Ravindra Babu explained that more than 30 events would be conducted for men and women in the tournament. The Jawahar Bharati College management will arrange boarding and lodging facilities in the institution premises sprawling in about 100 acres, for the players and P.Eds attending the meet, he said.
University founder Vice-Chancellor C.R. Visweswara Rao and others will attend the inaugural function. Kavali MLA Beeda Mastan Rao will preside over the programme, said Mr.Ravindra Babu.
VSU Sports Board secretary M.Chandra Mohan and tournament Technical Committee Chairman C. Kondal Rao said the board members and the advisory committee members would soon visit the Jawahar Bharati grounds where the events would be conducted. The university would provide necessary kits for organising indoor and outdoor events.
The last date for submitting the entries is September 20. Interested colleges have to send the list of the teams through the college managements concerned, said the Registrar.
