The first Vice-Chancellor of Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU), C. R. Visweswara Rao will complete his three-year term in office on Wednesday. Mr. Rao will lay down the office on July 27.
VSU was one among the six universities established by the State in 2008. The budding university which commenced classes in Venkatagiri Raja's College in the city is offering nine courses. Mr. Visweswara Rao assumed office on August 4, 2008.
The university achieved several mile stones including development of infrastructure, setting up labs, succeeded in getting 83 acres of land, grant of about Rs.25 crore grant for construction of the university buildings, making Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Krishnapatnam Port, Narayana Medical College and other industries and achieved four gold medals for meritorious students.
Collector B. Sreedhar, Registrar V. Narayana Reddy, A.P. Private Colleges Association members Acharya Aditya, Madhusudhan Reddy and the teaching and non-teaching staff of VSU felicitated Mr. Visweswara Rao and his wife C. Lakshmi, on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sreedhar praised Mr.Rao who developed the university in all aspects in the last three years.
The Vice-Chancellor has put up lot of efforts in getting land for VSU, developing infrastructure and in introducing new courses for the institution. He wished the Vice-Chancellor to get extension of his term, so that the university will come in to full shape.
Discipline
The registrar recalled the efforts of Mr. Rao in maintaining discipline among the students as well as faculty.
The VC has totally strengthened the examinations system which brought good reputation to the new university and Mr.Rao is a model for sincerity and honesty, said Mr. Reddy.
Mr. Visweswara Rao expressed immense satisfaction in serving the students during his tenure particularly from rural areas, through the university.
Recalling his school and college days which he spent on pedaling bicycle in Kavali town in the district, the V-C said the university is a boon for Nellore district and asked the students to make use of the institution.
He thanked the students and the staff for extending good cooperation in developing the university and wished students of all success in their life.
